For Cole
Erik Ulman
Word count: 76
Paragraphs: 2
More than a month has passed since Cole’s death; and the full shock and grief of the news has settled into something duller, like a stupidly persistent obstruction or misunderstanding. I miss her very much, and it’s impossible to find adequate words for thirty-two years of love and friendship and exchange, though memory upon memory floods in, not least of time spent together in the landscape that claimed her. Present and future are permanently diminished without her.
Erik Ulman is a composer and an Advanced Lecturer in Music at Stanford University. He co-directs Poto with Marcia Scott; a collection of correspondence with J.H. Prynne is forthcoming from Face Press.
