Sarah Boxer

Sarah Boxer is a critic and a writer of non-fiction and graphic fiction from Denver, Colorado, who now lives in Washington, DC, and New York. She has written and drawn four graphic novels—In the Floyd ArchivesMother May I?Hamlet: Prince of Pigs, and Anchovius Caesar. She has written articles, essays, and reviews for the New York Review of Books, The Atlantic, the Comics Journal, the New York Times, Photograph, Slate, and Artforum.

Graham Nickson, the Dean of the New York Studio School, was an intense painter and pedagogue. His recent death led me to recall two very different experiences of Graham, twenty-five years apart, and to record a few of his surprising words.
