After the kidnapping of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro, the end of the Chavista regime was described as a “new Berlin Wall for the Latin American left.” This holds particularly for Cuba, locked in a power struggle with its imperialist neighbor since 1959 and dependent on Venezuelan oil. I spent a month in Havana, keeping my eyes and ears open to the political atmosphere of the island.
