The smell of rubber, buzzing noise—seemingly coming from the overhead fluorescent lights—and scattered tires transform the gallery into an all-night garage. The all-night garage typically looms in the distance, the only beacon of light in an otherwise dark Northern Philadelphia landscape. In Jonathan Santoro’s “garage” there is a sense that something is being dismantled, rather than being repaired.
