Jawni Han is a Brooklyn-based trans filmmaker and film writer from Seoul, Korea, whose work has appeared in Notebook Mubi, Screen Slate, and In Review Online.
Two currents of history crisscross throughout By the Stream: the rehashing of the past marked by political struggles and reconnecting with the unfolding present lived by younger generations.
The film begins with a misleading suggestion of violence, which, when paired with the immediate verbal clarification that there actually isn’t any, serves as a witty meta commentary on the place of Decision to Leave within Park’s typically violent filmography.
