Sadie D. Patek Professor of Humanities Emerita at Stanford University, Marjorie Perloff is the author of many books and articles on on 20th and 21st century Poetry and Poetics, including, Frank O’Hara: Poet among Painters, 21st Century Modernism, and Unoriginal Genius: Writing by Other Means in the New Century, among others. Circling the Canon: The Collected Book Reviews of Marjorie Perloff, 1969-2016 has recently been published in two volumes by the University of New Mexico Press and Infrathin: An Experiment in Micropoetics is in press at Chicago. Perloff is currently working on the first English translation/edition of Wittgenstein’s Secret Notebooks 1914-16, to be published by Norton/Liveright in 2022.
Poet and a scholar, Charles Bernstein is a foundational member and leading practitioner of Language poetry. From 1978 to 1981, alongside fellow poet Bruce Andrews, he published L=A=N=G=U=A=G=E magazine, which became a forum for writing that blurred, confused, and denied the boundary between poetry and critical writing about poetry. Since the 1970s Bernstein has published dozens of books, including poetry as well as essay collections, pamphlets, translations, collaborations, and libretti. His poetry has been widely anthologized and translated, and it has appeared in over 500 magazines and periodicals. His most recent book Topsy-Turvy was published by the University of Chicago Press.
Chief curator emeritus at the Bronx Museum of the Arts, Antonio Sergio Bessa, PhD, is an Adjunct Professor at Columbia University’s Teachers College, where he teaches Museum Education Issues. A distinguished scholar of concrete poetry, Bessa has organized several critically acclaimed exhibitions on themes related to text-based art. He also collaborated with Deborah Cullen at the 3rd Trienal Poli/Gráfica de San Juan Puerto Rico, in 2012. His essays on concrete poetry have been published in several anthologies, journals, and websites including ubu.com and fahlstrom.com. He is the author of Öyvind Fahlström: The Art of Writing, and editor of Novas: Selected Writings of Haroldo de Campos, and Mary Ellen Solt: Toward a Theory of Concrete Poetry.
Professor of Modern Languages and Cultural Studies at University of Alberta, Odile Cisneros has translated poetry by Jaroslav Seifert, Vetezslav Nezval, Rodrigo Rey Rosa, Régis Bonvicino, and Haroldo de Campos, among others. Her critical essays have appeared in journals in Brazil, Argentina, Mexico, Spain, and the United States. Her translation of Haroldo de Campos’s Galáxias is forthcoming from Ugly Duckling Presse.
Poet, critic, editor, and professor at the University of Utah, Craig Dworkin is the author of some dozen books of experimental writing including most recently The Pine-Woods Notebook (Kenning Editions) and Helicography (Punctum Books). He has edited a half-dozen volumes, and is the author of four critical monographs: Reading the Illegible (2003); No Medium (2013); Dictionary Poetics (2021); and Radium of the Word: For a Poetics of Materiality (2021). He runs Eclipse <eclipsearchive.org>, an online archive of radical small-press writing.
Curator of Modern and Contemporary Collections at Getty Research Institute, Dr. Nancy Perloff pursues scholarship on European modernism, the Russian avant-garde, and the relationship between music and visual arts. Her curatorial work include Sea Tails: A Video Collaboration; Tango with Cows: Book Art of the Russian Avant-Garde; and World War I: War of Images, Images of War. She is the author of Art and the Everyday: Popular Entertainment and the Circle of Erik Satie, coeditor, with Brian M. Reed, of Situating El Lissitzky: Vitebsk, Berlin, Moscow, and author of Explodity: Sound, Image, and Word in Russian Futurist Book Art. Her exhibition, Concrete Poetry: Words and Sounds in Graphic Space inspired her forthcoming publication, Concrete Poetry: A 21st-Century Anthology.
Mónica de la Torre
Author of six books of poetry of which the most recent is Repetition Nineteen, published by Nightboat Books in the spring of 2020. Others include The Happy End/All Welcome—a riff on a riff on Kafka’s Amerika— as well as Public Domain. Born and raised in Mexico City, she has lived in NYC since mid-’90s and has published several books in Spanish, including Taller de Taquimecanografía, written jointly with the eponymous women’s collective she formed with Gabriela Jauregui, Laureana Toledo, and the late Aura Estrada. She teaches poetry at Brooklyn College and in the Bard MFA program. Recent work appears in Granta 151: Membranes and The Believer. The anthology Women in Concrete Poetry 1959–1979, co-edited with Alex Balgiu, is just out from Primary Information.
Brazilian Singer, Guitarist, and Political Activist Caetano Veloso is most known for being one of the founding members of the Brazilian Artistic Movement in the 1960’s, which was locally known as Tropicalismo. He has remained a constant creative influence and best-selling performing artist and composer ever since. Veloso has won nine Latin Grammy Awards and two Grammy Awards. On November 14, 2012, Veloso was honored as the Latin Recording Academy Person of the Year.
