Art historian Katy Hessel joins artist Katherine Bradford for a conversation on Zoom.

Katy Hessel is an art historian and author of The Story of Art without Men, a Sunday Times and New York Times Bestseller, and the winner of Waterstones Book of the Year 2022 (shortlisted for Barnes & Noble Book of the Year). She runs @thegreatwomenartists, an Instagram account that has celebrated women artists since 2015, and writes a column for The Guardian. Hessel hosts The Great Women Artists Podcast, where she has interviewed 150+ artists and writers, including Marina Abramović and Hilton Als. She has curated exhibitions at Victoria Miro Gallery, Kasmin Gallery, and more; and runs The Great Women Artists Residency at Palazzo Monti. This November, she will release her next book, How To Live An Artful Life: 366 Inspirations from Artists on how to Bring Creativity to Your Everyday. 

Katherine Bradford

Katherine Bradford is a painter with studios in Brooklyn and in Maine. This season she had solo shows in Tokyo (Tomio Koyama Gallery), Milan (Kaufman Repetto Gallery) and forthcoming at her New York gallery, Canada, opening October 23rd.  She also participated in group shows at David Zwirner, Vito Schnabel Gallery and Karma among others. Awards include a Guggenheim and a Joan Mitchell Fellowship.  She has taught in the Yale MFA program and at Skowhegan. Her murals can be found in the Manhattan subway at the First Ave stop on the L line.  Her work is in the collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Brooklyn Museum, the Baltimore Museum, the Musee d’Art Moderne Paris, and the Rubell Family Collection.  Katy Hessel interviewed her on her Great Woman Artists Podcast  April 8, 2025.
