The film follows the sisters—some of whom are played by multiple actresses—over the course of their lives. The Macaluso Sisters was a 2020 Venice International Film Festival Official Selection, and was released in American theaters this August.

By Anna CahnFocusing on Minax’s return to his Michigan hometown to tell the story of his infant niece’s death, the film documents not only the grief of his niece’s passing, but also his childhood and family’s response to his transness and the possibility of a queer self-acutalized existence.
