Mary Sue Andersen-Ader
Mary Sue Andersen-Ader remains an active painter at the age of 82. She is now living in Tucson, Arizona, having retired from teaching art at a California community college for over 40 years. She was married to the Dutch conceptual artist Bas Jan Ader for 10 years before he disappeared at sea in 1975 at the age of 33.

I knew that he was going on a single-handed sail to somewhere. It hurt that I couldn’t go with him, that he wouldn’t be in our bed for some time, that he would be out of my life for some time. I would be without the complications of us, but there was no joy in that. This is when I was still sure he would come back to LA and that we would pick up our lives together in a matter of months.
