Jean Shin

Jean Shin is a widely-exhibited Brooklyn-based visual artist who transforms accumulations of discarded objects into powerful monuments that interrogate our complex relationship between material consumption, collective identity and community engagement.

Jean Shin with Sharmistha Ray

When I think of my cultural identity as an artist, feminist, immigrant, and Asian American, I recognize that labor through these perspectives is a powerful tool for creativity and transformation. Immigrants often end up with what’s leftover and unwanted in society.
