Dawn Ades

Dawn Adés is Emeritus Professor of the History and Theory of Art at the University of Essex (UK), Fellow of the British Academy and of the Association of Art Historians, and a former trustee of Tate and the National Gallery. As well as writing about art, anti-art and an-art, whenever possible she curates exhibitions; these have included Dada and Surrealism Reviewed (1978); Undercover Surrealism: Georges Bataille and Documents (2006) and Dalí/Duchamp (2017).

1968: Before and After

Far from being identified with a singular artistic position as a conceptual artist, as Duchamp’s fame as instigator of Fountain might suggest, he had and continues to have quite extraordinary tentacles in every direction.
