Carlos Fonseca Suárez


Carlos Fonseca Suárez
 was born in Costa Rica in 1987 and grew up in Puerto Rico. His work has appeared in publications including The GuardianBOMBThe White Review and Asymptote. His debut novel, Coronel Lágrimas, was published in Spanish by Anagrama, and translated into English as Colonel Lágrimas, published by Restless Books. He currently teaches at the University of Cambridge and lives in London.

He probably hadn’t reached the age of thirty yet, but in the photograph that accompanies the letter he already has what I would later come to know as his unmistakable gaze: the eyes suspended between distraction and obsession, floating atop reddish cheekbones as if they had been put there by accident.
