…and you called it entertainment. / Black Girl was shot.

Black girl was shot,
and her body
became amusement.

Black girl was shot
and you asked her
to see the blood,

asked her
to bring the bullets
to the stage.

Black girl was shot,
and you asked her to prove it,
told her that what happened
to her didn’t happen to her.

Told her
that her body
belonged to the court
of public opinion
and popular approval.

Black girl was shot
and you say
we want to hear his side
of the story,

Say her story, her blood
ain’t enough.

Black girl was shot
and you asked her
what she did to earn herself
a bullet in her body,

because black girl
needs to be tranquilized,

because black girl
needs to be controlled,

because black girl
needs to be put in her place,

and you laugh at her,
and you dance to her songs,
and laugh,
and dance
and point,
parade her perpetrator,
call it entertainment,

Black girl was shot,
and you called it entertainment.
