Ive spent a lot of time online trying to find out whether Stephen Miller, architect of this administrations most inhumane immigration policies, has a dog. Hes likely behind the dehumanizing language Trump has used to describe undocumented immigrantsas animalsbut to use animal as an insult reveals a lot about our species relationship to other living thingswe maim, shoot, skin, and rape animals for our pleasure. I dont know, I just kind of wanted to know if Stephen Miller had a dog.

Im not sure when precisely it hit memaybe it was as I examined, by hand, the intricacies of the 20th Century Fox logo (from the opening of Otto Premingers 1947 film Forever Amber) on a strip of nitrate film stockbut hit me it did, like a ton of bricks, that the first 50 or so years of cinema, save the occasional special screening and site specific film festival, are actually lost forever.
